Hear the key learning from our Reading with Dementia collaboration with Newcastle Libraries, take the opportunity to share ideas and explore different approaches to dementia-friendly delivery and be inspired by the ways you can support people living with dementia continue reading for enjoyment.

Symposium Programme

10am: Registration and refreshments.

10.30am: Welcome and opening keynote from Isobel Hunter, Libraries Connected.

11am: Reading with Dementia project overview and key findings from Sarah Lawrance (Equal Arts) and Dr Anna Goulding (Northumbria University) in conversation. Hear about the impact of reading for dementia and how libraries' existing resources and collections can be utilised to elevate what libraries can provide for people living with dementia.

11.45am – 12.30pm: Panel discussions – Making reading enjoyable for people living with dementia with contributions from creative facilitators and participants.

Lunch and networking opportunities.

13.15pm – 2.30pm: Hear different, practical approaches to dementia-friendly reading from organisations leading the way in this emerging field. Contributions include Still Reading from Queen's University, Belfast and outreach work by The Bronte Parsonage Museum.

Afternoon refreshment break.

2.50pm – 4pm: Practical workshops and roundtable discussions to test and explore delivery ideas, the potential  challenges and opportunities.

4pm - 4.30pm: Roundtable feedback and closing reflections from Luke Burton, Arts Council England.
