TANDEM - Project NowHere
During 2015 Equal Arts is linking up with the Arts in Care Foundation in Amsterdam for a project exploring how artists work with people living with dementia.
Entitled ‘NowHere’ the project involves Alice Thwaite, Director of Development of Equal Arts, Vera Broos from Arts in Care Foundation and Marjolien Gysels, an anthropologist from the University of Amsterdam, bringing artists together to share ideas about how they work in their own countries.
The year-long project aims to give artists the opportunity to explore how they can bring creativity to care homes benefiting those living with dementia.
North East artists’ will head to Amsterdam for the cultural exchanges with Dutch artists heading to Gateshead care homes.
Equal Arts Director of Development Alice Thwaite said: “There is a growing understanding that creativity is intact long after other cognitive functions decline.
“While there is an emerging recognition of the benefits of the arts, artists haven’t had the opportunity to reflect on how this impacts on their own work and what the ingredients are for good practice.”
“Linking with Amsterdam we can help artists share how they work with residents in care settings and explore new ways of running sessions.”
The project is part of Tandem, an exchange programme for cultural organisations in England, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
