Reducing financial abuse of older people

Working with the St Anthony of Padua Association we have created sessions to engage with more than 100 vulnerable older people to improve their awareness of and ability to deal with financial abuse.

Based in Newcastle the association provides a day service for older people, many with early stage dementia.

The association was keen to find a different way of addressing the issue, often only dealt with via advice in leaflets.

Artists Pete Ross and Alison Dene have been staging drama, improvisation and forum theatre to tackle the subject, help people start talking about money matters and how to recognise if they are being financially abused.
