Cranlea

After seeing the activities we provide across North East care settings we were approached by Cranlea, a care home specialising in dementia, and together formed the Friends of Cranlea.

We ran a year-long project providing activities based on the visual arts, gardening, movement, music and singing.

In May 2014 the Cranlea Benefit Funding Group, set up by relatives and staff, was awarded funding of £10,000 from Awards for All for pilot project to raise awareness of dementia in the community.

By supporting the training for retail staff and with our creative activities we are working alongside Cranlea for this year-long project to create one of Newcastle’s first dementia friendly communities at Kingston Park, Newcastle.

"We wanted to promote knowledge about dementia in the area but it was also felt what was being offered to people living with dementia in terms of engagement just did not fit the bill."
"We were delighted to receive the funding which will extend what is on offer for residents with creative sessions seeing them discover skills they did not know they had or have the chance to revisit interests." Lynn Day, Cranlea manager
