Artists' Training Project
Equal Arts developed a training programme for artists interested in working with older people. This was in response to an audit carried out in 2005 which showed that a large number of artists were keen to learn and develop their skills in this field.
Twelve artists from the North East specialising in various art forms, undertook a three-month programme of visits and “shadowed” experienced artists working at venues which included Riverside House, Morpeth; the Sage Gateshead; and the Grange day centre in Newcastle. Equal Arts also ran specialist training sessions, including two workshops with John Killick, a poet with substantial experience in the field of arts and dementia.
