Ageing, Vitality and Health
Equal Arts has developed this project with Tyne & Wear Museums and Archives to explore ways in which older people engage with the museums and archives sector. Two groups enjoy weekly trips to a range of venues and events in the region, facilitated by artists Jos Forrester-Melville and Sue Woolhouse. Destinations include Discovery Museum, the Great North Museum, Beamish Museum, the Shipley Art Gallery and Segedunum.
The project is being evaluated by the Institute of Ageing and Health at Newcastle University.
“I could write forever about how much I enjoyed it. I wouldn’t hesitate to advise people to go – it’s all free. I enjoyed the group discussion as everyone enjoyed something different and you gained from other people’s opinion.”
“I found apart from the extra exercise, walking around the museums, art galleries, etc, it really stimulated your mind. It seemed to give you extra energy instead of just sitting watching TV. You wanted to do something when you got home.”
